We last studied the account of Jesus and the Canaanite woman in the region of Tyre and Sidon. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”Ģ0 Then He warned His disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Christ. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Reading the Textġ3 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”ġ4 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist others say Elijah and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”ġ5 “But what about you,” He asked “Who do you say I am?”ġ6 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”ġ7 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in Heaven. This is the famous passage in which Peter makes his great confession of faith, and Jesus responds with the revelation of how He will build His church. ![]() We now come to a very significant section of the book in which the disciples’ faith seems to be much stronger and Jesus’ program made much clearer.
